Hi! My name is Amanda. Recently, my sophomore english class has begun a unit on the men and women of Africa. As part of the unit, my English teacher has given us a project: to help. It may seem simple, but trust me, it's not. Each week she posts a new "mission" that we can attend to; whether it be clean water, food shortages, education etc. The purpose is not only to learn about the subject, but to extend our help by doing something about it. As my mission, I have chosen trying to get clean water for those who don't have access to it. It has always been something that I have thought about, but never in a way that forced myself to actually get out there and DO SOMETHING about it. Did you know 5 million people die a year due to untreated water; that women and children can't get educated because they spend day and night gathering water; that 1.1 BILLION- that is one in every six people- does not have access to clean and safe water? All this is happening in the world around us, yet we all take clean water for advantage.So, what does this have to do with you? Well I guess you could say nothing-or everything. I'm hoping to take this project further, to do something that really counts. During the next month and a half, I am hoping to find ways to raise money for The Water Project, and surprise the organization with a high donation. While I don't necessarily have everything planned out yet, I know this is something I am passionate about, something that I want to take part in fixing, and I would love if you could help. I know it's a crazy hope, but it would be one of the most amazing things ever if there was any chance that you guys could help out.
