Everyone Deserves Clean Water!
Recently the 7th graders read the book Long Walk to Water by Linda Sue Parks. The book taught our students of the plight of over 30,000 young men who were forced to leave their war torn homeland and walk thousands of miles through dangers many cannot even begin to comprehend in search of a new home, eventually becoming known as the Lost Boys of Sudan.
In a parallel story, our students read of a girl named Nya who was forced to walk over 8 hours each day in search for water; a plight of millions of African girls and boys each day. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z4-69V0--Fw (This is a short video explaining how women walk for water etc.)
It is our desire to help in whatever way we can. Please consider being part of our Penny War to raise money to build a well for at least one village. With clean, safe water comes the opportunity for a longer healthier life, a community school, a hygienic lifestyle and economic growth. http://thewaterproject.org/community/
Some interesting facts about water:
Every 15 second a child dies from water a related disease.
3.5 million people die every year from water related diseases.
98% of water related deaths occur in developing countries.
1 in 8 people do not have access to safe water.
Average US citizen uses 80-100 gallons of water a day – average household 300 gallons.
Did you know nearly 1 billion people don't have safe water to drink?
Together, we can change that. Let's fund a new source of drinking water for those who suffer needlessly without it!
Our gifts will be used to construct or rehabilitate a water project, like a well or sand dam, in Africa. We'll see pictures, GPS coordinates, and updates as they come in from the actual water project we fund so we can celebrate the results along with the community we help.
The Water Project, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization unlocking human potential by providing clean, safe water to communities around the world who suffer needlessly without.
Working with local partners in countries like Kenya, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, and Uganda, we build long lasting water projects that are organized, owned and managed by the communities receiving them.
Together, with our partners we identify, implement, report on and follow up on every project. Then we share the whole story with you to inspire confidence in the work being done and the impact it has.
