Big Idea: EQUITY-social, intergenerational, educational, allocation of and access to natural resources, economic, health, employment etc.
Essential Question: How does having clean water affect the world, and how can the world evenly distribute that water?
(How does access to clean water affect the world’s population? (This is part of natural resource equity.)
Overview: Living in America, we have many privileges that we often take for granted. For example, access to clean water. But there are some communities within America that have more privileges than others. We do not have slums here in America but we do have housing projects. How do you and your family’s daily decisions and actions affect the world and the community around you? Does your decision to buy Apple products impact Chinese workers? Does the trash that our school accumulates affect neighborhoods here in Aurora? How can you make a difference in your community and the world?
Most people have always had access to clean water sources, no matter where they go. In most places you can turn on a tap and you know drinkable water will come out. We want to know what life could be like without this easy access to water. How could this be changed? Also, we want to know how people would react without the access to water that many of us take for granted.
The Challenge: To help get send clean water to people that normally would not have access. Guiding Questions:
How is life without the access to clean water?
What kinds of people do not have the access to clean water?
How does water availability effect communities?
What is stopping most communities from having clean water?
How many people around the world have access to clean water?
How is water distributed around the world?
Why don’t some people have clean water?
Guiding Activities:
Communicate with people in Africa, and ask them about their life.
Research how life with water is different from life without water.
Find out how people would react without access to water (interview them).
Find more local examples of people without water.
Contact companies that already do what we are trying to do, and find a way to help or become active.

Solution /Action:
The action will be to help send water to communities. We will do this by using a larger company as a model, assisting the company, or helping where they are not. This should help solve the problem of natural resource equity,
Why It Matters
Did you know nearly 1 billion people don't have safe water to drink?
Together, we can change that. Let's fund a new source of drinking water for those who suffer needlessly without it!
Our gifts will be used to construct or rehabilitate a water project, like a well or sand dam, in Africa. We'll see pictures, GPS coordinates, and updates as they come in from the actual water project we fund so we can celebrate the results along with the community we help.
