Imagine that one of the most important necessities for life was stripped from you. Imagine that the water you shower in, you bath in, wash your dishes in was suddenly brown. Now imagine that not only did the water for such daily tasks as brushing your teeth or washing your hands became unusable, but imagine that you could not even risk a glass of water. Your choice was drink or face dehydration, or drink the water and face disease. For me probably like many other people when we hear about things as difficult to process as the fact that children are dying everyday because of the lack of something so readily available to us and everyone we know it's impossible to not have the urge to do something about it. To get angry, to feel guilty, to want change. But so often people like us don't have the means to do very much about it, so we push back these gruesome images and keep on with our lives to make ourselves feel better when we know there's nothing that we can do.
People are dying all around the world everyday because they don't have a supply to the one thing we take most for granted, water. We have bottles and bottle to spare, showers full, sinks full, we even argue with eachother about the means of disposing the plastic that its sold in. But we rarely ever think that it simply won't be there.
But the thing is there is something we can all do about it. After visiting the water project.org I found out how much everyday people like myself can really do. That there are projects underway as we speak, building water wells in Kenya, The Sudan, Sierra Leon, and India. And all of this money comes from people like us. We can make a difference! Just talking to people you know about it is making a difference. Making yourself and others think about what's going on,and inspiring them to tell others. Donating $10 $20 or anything you can spare. Getting involved, starting a fundraiser, keeping up with the progress underway. I was inspired enough to let everyone I know about this project by making this fundraising page. Whatever little amount anyone wants to contribute will hopefully lead to a community effort of maybe funding our own well and changing lives.
I honestly hope that whoever does read this is inspired enough to spread the word..
because
All I know is that when I hear that a child dies every 5 seconds for something that we all should have, i know that they deserve some thought from all of us who do have.
Thankyou for taking the time to read this all the way through. I'm aware that this may have come across sounding the same as every charity page that goes around asking for money and help, and somehow we forget about all of those. But if it were me, I know I would want people brave enough to think about things that are none too pleasant. Wouldn't you want us to think about you?
Did you know nearly 1 billion people don't have safe water to drink?
Together, we can change that. Let's fund a new source of drinking water for those who suffer needlessly without it!
Our gifts will be used to construct or rehabilitate a water project, like a well or sand dam, in Africa. We'll see pictures, GPS coordinates, and updates as they come in from the actual water project we fund so we can celebrate the results along with the community we help.
The Water Project, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization unlocking human potential by providing clean, safe water to communities around the world who suffer needlessly without.
Working with local partners in countries like Kenya, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, and Uganda, we build long lasting water projects that are organized, owned and managed by the communities receiving them.
Together, with our partners we identify, implement, report on and follow up on every project. Then we share the whole story with you to inspire confidence in the work being done and the impact it has.
