Help Fund a Water Project

Together, we can unlock potential in a developing community by providing clean, safe water.
Fundraiser

We are fundraising to help the people of Africa, especially the children,to have one of life's essential and most basic needs! We want to help make a difference in our global community!

When water comes... everything changes.!

Today we met Mr. Peter Baker, the President and CEO of Crystal Rock, when he came to our school to see our presentation. He has agreed to provide the water for our awareness campaign and presented us with a check in the amount of $500! Additionally, he brought each of us a Crystal Rock t-shirt which we were allowed to wear for the remainder of the school day! We are off to a great start and we haven't even officially begun our campaign!

12/21/11

Dr.Sequeira, the Assistant Superintendent of Waterbury Public Schools, came to WSMS to talk to us about his visit to Africa where he conducted multiple studies on water. Dr.Sequeira himself lived in Kenya, Africa, and educated us about the different contaminents that are found in water like parasites, bacteria, diseases and other impurities. Thank you, Dr. Sequeira, for your visit.

Reporter Michael Puffer from the Waterbury Republican-American newspaper came to speak to us today about The Water Project so that he could write a report to be feautured in the newspaper. We showed him the PowerPoint presentation which had a lot of information for him to include in the article. He was delighted with the class and it was a pleasure to have him here.

We are in the newspaper! Michal Puffer from the Waterbury Republican-American newspaper did an outstanding job with the article. As a result we have been inundated with donations! Our goal of $6,000 is getting closer and closer each day! Thank you for all the great support and encouragement!

Our classmates are getting creative and coming up with ideas of ways we can secure more money! One student has crocheted hat and scarf sets which we will raffle off--the tickets are going like hot cakes! One of the art teachers painted a picture of a single drop of water and its impact on water's surface--the ripples caused by the drop are like the ripples of people helping people! This painting is also a very popular raffle item!

2/3/12

Today we had a special guest, Christine Ieronimo, talk to us about her experiences while visiting Ethiopia for her mission towards clean water . She also read us her book, Drinking from Puddles, isnspired by her adopted daughter from Ethiopia and educated us on things we previously didn't know about African culture such as fair trade coffee and suppression of women. Her presentation motivated us even more for The Water Project. Thank you, Mrs. Ieronimo!

2/7/12

Scot Haney, WFSB-3 weatherman and morning TV personality, came to West Side to interview students for an upcoming segment on Better Connecticut about The Water Project. He was thrilled with our mission and the idea of helping underprivileged people. He was a very gracious guest and allowed students and staff to have pictures taken with him. He will be letting us know when the piece will air. Stay tuned!

2/17/12

Today we saw a copy of the February edition of The Waterbury Observor. In it is a picture of our seventh grade class on the day we met Mr. Peter Baker. Mr. Murray, owner of The Waterbury Observor, was one of our first contributors to The Water Project! Thank you, Mr. Murray!

3/2/12

We were lucky enough to be invited to have lunch with the mayor! He treated the class with pizza, gave us a tour of City Hall and talked to us about how proud he was that we're doing this. We had a great time! This definitely was an amazing opportunity! Thank you, Mayor O'Leary!

Why It Matters

Access to clean, safe water unlocks potential

Did you know nearly 1 billion people don't have safe water to drink?

Together, we can change that. Let's fund a new source of drinking water for those who suffer needlessly without it!

Our gifts will be used to construct or rehabilitate a water project, like a well or sand dam, in Africa. We'll see pictures, GPS coordinates, and updates as they come in from the actual water project we fund so we can celebrate the results along with the community we help.

About The Water Project

The Water Project, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization unlocking human potential by providing clean, safe water to communities around the world who suffer needlessly without.

Working with local partners in countries like Kenya, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, and Uganda, we build long lasting water projects that are organized, owned and managed by the communities receiving them.

Together, with our partners we identify, implement, report on and follow up on every project. Then we share the whole story with you to inspire confidence in the work being done and the impact it has.
