Imagine walking down the street enjoying a beautiful summer day. The air is crisp, the birds are singing, and the grass unfolds into acres of emerald green. Suddenly you see a boy struggling in a nearby pool of water. The water is shallow and poses no danger to you and the boy is far too small to hurt you or drag you down. The only down side to helping this young man is that your brand new leather shoes will be ruined. You paid $300 for them only two days ago and there's no time to take them off, you must act quickly.
What do you do?
Of course you save the boy. Anyone can live without $300 shoes. Unfortunately when this situation is applied to a larger scale people do not view it the same way. Allowing others to die, taking no action, even if they are in a different country is just as inexcusable as allowing the boy to die on your crisp summer day. We are all walking down the street of life, and there are thousands of children dying, but none of us want to stop and help.
That is why I give. That is why I choose to give water. I realize I still live a life that most would consider luxurious, I realize donating a few hundred dollars a month doesn't make me a saint, but any action is better than doing nothing.
Refusing to help simply because "nobody else does" or "my $100 won't help" is like saying "nobody else stops to help the child, why should I?" or "why bother trying if I'll only save one?"
The answer is: because doing something is better than doing nothing. So I implore you, whether it's here, another charity, or rolling your sleeves back and contributing with labor, please do SOMETHING.
I won't prevent all deaths from drinking dirty water. I won't prevent every single family worldwide from having to walk several miles just to get a bucket of clean water. I won't help everyone, but by sacrificing one night out on the town a month I might save one person, one family, or maybe even one village. Isn't that worth it?
Did you know nearly 1 billion people don't have safe water to drink?
Together, we can change that. Let's fund a new source of drinking water for those who suffer needlessly without it!
Our gifts will be used to construct or rehabilitate a water project, like a well or sand dam, in Africa. We'll see pictures, GPS coordinates, and updates as they come in from the actual water project we fund so we can celebrate the results along with the community we help.
The Water Project, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization unlocking human potential by providing clean, safe water to communities around the world who suffer needlessly without.
Working with local partners in countries like Kenya, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, and Uganda, we build long lasting water projects that are organized, owned and managed by the communities receiving them.
Together, with our partners we identify, implement, report on and follow up on every project. Then we share the whole story with you to inspire confidence in the work being done and the impact it has.
