The Water Project: Mwanyani
The youth of Chapel Pointe Church in Hudsonville, MI are rallying their community in support of
The Water Project: Mwanyani.
They have accepted the challenge to raise over $5,000 to build a weir (sand dam) and bring clean water to this Kenyan community.
With your help, they will forever change the lives of over 2,000 people!
About the Project:The Problem:
The people of Mwanyani suffer from a lack of access to clean water. Currently community members, most often children, must travel up to 8km each way to collect water to drink. Often times, even this water is dirty and diseased. The problems caused by this unclean water are numerous. By providing a water source nearby, the foundation will be laid for many other types of relief work.

The Solution:
The Africa Brotherhood Church, our partner in the field, will be constructing a weir (sand dam) across one of the seasonal rivers near Mwanyani.
A weir is used to catch rainwater that normally flows by in the rainy season. By creating a mini-reservoir, the weirs raise the water table enough to allow shallow hand dug wells to provide water for the community. Livestock, though kept away from the water, also benefit. Irrigation of crops becomes possible and this has yet another substantial impact in the community. Water collected for drinking is additionally filtered and disinfected, resulting in a dramtic increase of overall health. Infant mortality rates, as one example, have in the past been shown to be cut in half!
A weir can store up to 2 million litres of water. This project will benefit 2,000 people - 300 men, 500 women, & 1,200 youth and children - in Mwanyani.

Getting Involved:The Chapel Pointe team is launching "The Water Challenge" in their church and community. They are asking folks to give up all types of beverages, except water, for two weeks. The money saved in that time by skipping pop, coffee, juice, etc. will be used to fund the construction of this water project. The Water Project, Inc. does not use any of these funds for administrative expenses. 100% of the money raised will help the Mwanyani community!
