Walk for Water 2008

The students of The Collegiate have accepted the challenge to raise over $10,000 to build a rain water catchment system and water tank in the community of Kalimani in Kenya. The system will feature a sand filtration system and community members will be trained to ensure the water remains clean and safe.

With your help, the students of The Collegiate will forever change the lives of over 2,000 people!

About the Project:

The Problem:

The people of Kalimani suffer daily from a lack of access to clean water. Currently, community members...most often children...must travel up to 8km each way to collect water to drink. Often times, even this water is dirty and diseased. The problems caused by unclean water are numerous and devastating. By providing a reliable water source in this village the foundation will be laid for many other types of relief work.

The Solution:

A water tank in KenyaOur partner in the field will be constructing a rain water catchment system and large concrete water tank in the village of Kalimani.

These tanks hold over 100,000 litres of water and help the community cope between rainy seasons. Kalimani has a number of concrete buildings with adequate roofs to quickly collect large amounts of rain when it falls.

This project will benefit 2,000 people - 300 men, 500 women, & 1,200 youth and children.
