A Drink for a Drink
Help Fund a Water Project
We are a group of college students who, by working with The
Water Project, hope to raise money and awareness for clean water in Africa.
About $10 can give a person clean water. Please help us bring clean water
to all!
Why this is a
problem: Over 1 billion people in the world do not have access to clean
drinking water, a commodity Americans often take for granted. This lack of
sanitary water results in 115 people dying every hour from water-borne
illnesses, and a child dying every 15 minutes. Without water, breaking out of
poverty is often impossible, as members of communities spend hours every day collecting
usable water. It is estimated that Africa loses 40 billion hours per year
collecting water.
What we can do:
As college students, we are all familiar with spending Thursdays, Fridays, and
Saturdays drinking with friends. Did you know that college students spend 5.5
Billion dollars a year on alcohol? That a single student spends $500 a year? (over
40$ dollars a month. If we can spend so much on a such a luxury, can we spare
some of that on a fundamental necessity? What if we were to devote some of the
money we usually spend on drinking to providing Africans with enough water to
survive? By taking a pledge to donate a symbolic amount- a dollar, a few cents-
for every drink we have for an entire week, month, or longer- we can work to
eradicate this problem. A drink for a drink.
How we would do it: We
will promote on facebook, twitter, on campus, on flyers- to encourage students
to sign a pledge, or even donate a few bucks right there- to give for every
alcoholic drink they consume. All the proceeds will go directly to the
construction of wells in Africa.
Why It Matters

Together, we can change that. Let's fund a new source of drinking water for those who suffer needlessly without it!
Our gifts will be used to construct or rehabilitate a water project, like a well or sand dam, in Africa. We'll see pictures, GPS coordinates, and updates as they come in from the actual water project we fund so we can celebrate the results along with the community we help.
