Because water doesn't change everything. People Do.

Real Problems.

The water crisis is real. It’s affecting women, children, families and farmers. Women and girls in sub-Saharan Africa are spending hours a day fetching dirty water which leads to illness and disease, robbing entire communities of their futures.

Lack of access to safe water and proper sanitation limits education and food production, it harms health and leads to a cycle of poverty.

We want to help our neighbors and we know you do too. When you support The Water Project, you help bring clean water through new wells, rehabbed wells, sand dams, rainwater catchment systems and/or spring protections to schools, medical clinics and villages.

We believe local in-country solutions, through local national leaders, can help end the water crisis one partnership at a time. We can’t wait to bring you into the heart of their stories.

How We Work

The water crisis is real. It’s affecting women, children, families and farmers.

Real People.

We are committed to bringing people together to solve the problem of finding clean water. Whether it's our local teams in the field, the folks back at our headquarters, our donors and fundraisers or the communities we serve, we believe water doesn’t change everything. People do. These relationships are the heart and soul of our work.

Yes, clean water is foundational and it’s at the foundation of what we do at The Water Project. But how we do it is what’s important. We invest in local teams who provide clean water and unlock potential in the villages where people live. Real, local people changing the expectations of their own neighbors on what a water point should do (provide reliable water).

We pour a ton into our local (international based) teams in countries like Kenya, Uganda and Sierra Leone. We teach, we lead, and then we step back to learn and grow. We celebrate our teams innovations and victories. We stand by and support them through difficulties or challenges. And we do this because we believe investing locally is where the magic happens.

When you support The Water Project, you support clean water and our in-country teams. This means you invest in a water project and Catherine, one of our local leaders. You send her to leadership training, you invest in her education and you support her as she walks alongside communities, teaching them and growing their potential.

Real Impact.

We believe in accountability and transparency to all the people we serve including our donors, our communities and our teams.

That's why we love sharing the awesome reports we receive from the field. They are an invitation to be part of the work and celebrations alongside us. When you support The Water Project, you unlock access to real people, both here at our headquarters and via our work in the field. Every gift is directly connected to a community.

Every gift unlocks a story, a person, a future. Every gift has impact.

To ensure that impact lasts, we also believe in monitoring all our projects, new and old, to make sure they are still functioning properly. And we fix what's broken. We believe water flowing today should still be flowing in the future. To see all our projects and there current functionality check out our Project Directory.

Fundraiser

I'm very aware of the many blessings I have, but it also gave me a newfound understanding of the many families that are constantly suffering. It's something that I just can't ignore, so I'm taking action to help.

Leila Murenzi

TWP Development Team

I love connecting our supporters to the people they help. The email I get to send, telling them that the water project they funded is complete can be a life-changing moment as they learn about the people their gifts impacted in places like Kenya.

The Water Project has sent me to many trainings. Because of them, I'm beginning to realize who I am.

Our belief motivates our action.
It doesn't limit our reach.

Real Motivation.

We're Christ-followers and we believe Jesus has made an unambiguous call to "provide a cup of cold water" and to answer the needs of those who say "I am thirsty" (Matt 25).

That said, it's important to note that we work with everyone, for everyone. Our belief motivates our action. It doesn't limit our reach. It forms the basis of our integrity and the assurance that lives can be truly changed.

The work we do through The Water Project is for the common good of the general public. We are NOT a religious organization.

The reason we do this work is because we are Christians. We believe this distinction allows us to work with people of all backgrounds and faiths for the benefit of all people. Our projects do not discriminate on the basis of race, creed, ethnic or religious backgrounds. We serve others.

These essential, life-sustaining water projects speak to what loving one's neighbor truly means.

We exist to see the world changed through this love and hope to truly unlock potential with our neighbors.

These water projects speak to what loving one's neighbor truly means.
