The misconception and overlooked idea of how short water is in other countries draws my feelings and need to act into a movement i feel is necessary. To my friends and family, throughout my life, all that I'm learning about our world's environmental changes is that, it would be naive to say it is short of terrifying. The technology and improvements that we have made in this world are tremendous to our survival but they are also weakening us faster than we can fix it. Dams, bottled water organizations, and the World bank for water are just a few of the mountains we have to climb in order to make a difference and help those in need of life and prosperity, most importantly, water! If i could educate in a brief way too all that are reading, it is simple, countries all around the world are having their natural resource of water taken away, only supplying the people with bacteria, diseased infested water. Even in our own great lakes, companies like, Nestle, pumps out more than 450 gallons per minute to place in water bottles that aren't even filtered. They take ownership of rivers and lakes, not paying a dime in state taxes or the unlawful fact that they are taking our water everyday leaving our lands dry. Water is a resource that we all take advantage of and aren't shown the drastic amount that is even undrinkable. "The United Nations estimates it would require 30 billion a year to provide safe, clean drinking water to the entire planet. Last year alone, we spent three times that amount on bottled water." Bottled water is tap water! Experiments have been made that bottled water is not filtered anymore than your house tap water is and it would only disgust you if you knew the amount of disease living in your own kitchen faucet. The people of africa and india are shorted their access to water and to have a pump that will clean it from the pesticides they are drinking now, would be a large blessing. Instead the government says, "you have to pay for a pump for water despite your wages." One pump costs 1,500 hundred dollars and for a community or a few families that have no work this is something that is unattainable for them. They are forced to drink from the lakes and rivers which are filled with pesticides, bacteria, pathogens, disease that kills in only a short amount of time. Alarming and horrid, one in ten of these children will die before the age of five. The water conditions and lack there of have caused the environment to dwindle away. Lakes have turned into mud pits and the green environment cannot flourish simply because there is no water to feed it. I am asking for a small amount of money to give a new water pump to the people in need, so they too can have a chance and can drink clean water every day. Look around you and look how fortunate you are. Our lives may seem hard and crazy day to day but in the reality of it all, we are the only people that have enough to make a difference. I believe giving towards a water pump is the least we can do to change the lives of many. "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed citizens can change the world:indeed, it's the only thing that ever has." Thank you again sincerely, Alexis Bahl. writing from Chicago, IL. https://thewaterproject.org/donate.asp http://www.flowthefilm.com/aboutDid you know nearly 1 billion people don't have safe water to drink?
Together, we can change that. Let's fund a new source of drinking water for those who suffer needlessly without it!
Our gifts will be used to construct or rehabilitate a water project, like a well or sand dam, in Africa. We'll see pictures, GPS coordinates, and updates as they come in from the actual water project we fund so we can celebrate the results along with the community we help.
The Water Project, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization unlocking human potential by providing clean, safe water to communities around the world who suffer needlessly without.
Working with local partners in countries like Kenya, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, and Uganda, we build long lasting water projects that are organized, owned and managed by the communities receiving them.
Together, with our partners we identify, implement, report on and follow up on every project. Then we share the whole story with you to inspire confidence in the work being done and the impact it has.
