Help Fund a Water Project

Together, we can unlock potential in a developing community by providing clean, safe water.

There is a need to improve the health well being of communities in Bugiri district through provision of safe water and sanitation facilities. With an estimated population of 240,000 safe water coverage stands at 35% far below the national average of 55% in rural areas (World bank, 2004). Households living more than 1 km to the nearest water source constitute 77.4%. During dry season long queues are common at the few safe water sources. A 20 litre jerrycan costs between 300-500 shillings, unaffordable to families with average household size of 5.4 persons. Women and girls carry the labourious burden of fetching water for home use, associated with social impacts of increase in school dropout of girl children resulting from early pregnancy and marriages, domestic violence, divorce etc. Coupled with poor and inadequate sanitation facilities, incidences of water-borne diseases become rampant. Together we can slowly but surely reverse this trend.

Why It Matters

Access to clean, safe water unlocks potential

Did you know nearly 1 billion people don't have safe water to drink?

Together, we can change that. Let's fund a new source of drinking water for those who suffer needlessly without it!

Our gifts will be used to construct or rehabilitate a water project, like a well or sand dam, in Africa. We'll see pictures, GPS coordinates, and updates as they come in from the actual water project we fund so we can celebrate the results along with the community we help.

About The Water Project

The Water Project, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization unlocking human potential by providing clean, safe water to communities around the world who suffer needlessly without.

Working with local partners in countries like Kenya, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, and Uganda, we build long lasting water projects that are organized, owned and managed by the communities receiving them.

Together, with our partners we identify, implement, report on and follow up on every project. Then we share the whole story with you to inspire confidence in the work being done and the impact it has.
