Abwao Water Project
Abwao Project Details:
Type: Weir (sand-dam)
Expected capacity: 2 million litres
Beneficiaries: 5,000 people (700 men - 1,500 women - 2,800 youth and children) and 5,000 livestock.
Location: The Abwao Water Project is located in Obanda Village in upper Kadiang'a Sub-location, Thurdibuoro Location, Upper-Nyakach Division, Nyando District, Nyanza Province in Western Kenya. The area is characterized by hilly slopes with sparse woody vegetation. The village covers an area of 602 km2. The major activities carried out in the area are farming, mat making and rearing livestock.
Total Cost: $5,600 plus the local community's contribution.
Sponsors: Private individuals through TheWaterProject.org.
Status: Funded, Pending Construction

"The Western region and the coasts are experiencing a lot of rains. The current onset has marred most of the project activities making a lot of activities to be suspended. The weir construction has been suspended for a while in anticipation of subsiding of the rains. "
