Makivenzi Water Project Update - December 2007
Updates:
August 2007
September 2007
December 2007
We have received another update from the Makivenzi Girls school water project in Kenya.
The water tank sponsored by donors of TheWaterProject.org is now complete and full of water!
The girls at the school have gone from living on a daily ration of less than 5 liters of water a day to having unrestricted access to clean drinkable water. These young women, perhaps for the first time in their lives, have a taste of what you and I live with every day...abundance.
This is the report we received...
"The construction works on the water tank [was] completed on 15th October 2007. The school administration is currently working on fitting the nearby administration block with gutters to help harness water from the roof. This undertaking is expected to be completed by the end of this month of November. October to December is usually a rainy season in this area and therefore, it is expected that a lot of rain water will be collected in the tank. Currently, the school administration has been organizing for the water tank to be filled with water from Matuu's town water pipeline.
The school fraternity has never been [more] delighted than now. The water rationing which has been the order of the dry season is now a thing of the past."
We have also received word that the hand dug well is nearing its target depth of 62 feet, at which point it will be capped and fitted with pump.
