The lack of clean water and sanitation is a large problem in Kenya. Not just the sanitation, but the lack of resources to gain the water itself is an issue itself. There are many locations and ways in which there are challenges in gaining clean water.
In many rural areas of Kenya, families walk long distances—sometimes over 5 kilometers—just to fetch water. The water they collect often comes from rivers or ponds shared with livestock, making it unsafe to drink. This leads to widespread waterborne diseases like cholera and diarrhea, which particularly harm children.
In Nairobi’s informal settlements, such as Kibera, access to piped water is scarce and unreliable. Residents are forced to buy water from vendors at inflated prices, which can be up to 10 times higher than the official rate. This creates both a financial burden and health risks, since the water is not always treated.
Kenya’s agriculture sector, which employs most of the population, heavily depends on water for irrigation. During droughts, farmers lose crops and livestock, worsening food insecurity and poverty. The lack of clean and consistent water sources limits both household consumption and economic survival.
Today, too many children and harmless citizens suffer needlessly - walking miles for dirty water that makes them sick. You and I can change that. Please make a donation and then help me spread the word.
I hope you'll consider joining me to fund a water project. With your gifts and your help rallying support, we can provide clean, safe and reliable water to a community in Kenya.
