Community Information
Community Name: Wangelongo Village
Location: Macalder/Kanyarwanda Ward, Nyatike Constituency, Migori County, Kenya.
Wangelongo is a rural community in Migori County whose residents primarily depend on small-scale farming, fishing, and artisanal mining for their livelihoods. Despite these economic activities, access to safe and reliable water remains one of our greatest challenges.
## The Water Challenge
Our community does not have reliable access to clean and safe drinking water. Many families depend on distant or seasonal water sources that are often unsafe for human consumption. During dry seasons, the situation becomes more severe as nearby water sources either dry up or become overcrowded.
Women and children, including school-going children, spend hours each day walking long distances to collect water. This reduces school attendance, limits productive work, and places a heavy physical burden on families. The use of unsafe water also increases the risk of waterborne diseases and negatively affects the health of our community.
Community Impact
A reliable water source would transform life in Wangelongo by:
* Providing safe drinking water for households.
* Reducing the time women and children spend collecting water.
* Improving health through access to cleaner water.
* Increasing school attendance by allowing children to spend more time learning instead of fetching water.
* Supporting agriculture and strengthening household livelihoods.

Proposed Solution
We respectfully request that The Water Project assess Wangelongo Village for the most appropriate long-term water solution. Based on your technical assessment, this may include:
* Drilling a new borehole.
* Rehabilitating an existing water source, if feasible.
* Installing a hand pump or solar-powered pumping system.
* Constructing appropriate water storage and distribution infrastructure.
We trust your technical team to recommend the solution that best fits our community\'s needs and local groundwater conditions.
