Each year we select a special project to help the kids look beyond themselves, to see the bigger picture of what is going on in the world, and to help them realize that they can make a difference!
The Water Project
This year we are partnering with The Water Project, a non-profit organization that is bringing relief to communities around the world who suffer needlessly from a lack of access to clean water.
We are asking all the kids at Breakaway to find a spare sock and fill it with spare change they find at home, all throughout the week! All the proceeds of these donations will go directly toward the building of a well to provide clean, fresh water.
I am hoping to hear back soon from my contacts at The Water Project to find out what country and which community we will be supporting with our donations!
After we donate our monies, it will then take 3 – 6 months to construct the well and be fully operational.
We will have access to a web page once we contribute, and we can check periodically to see pictures and follow the progress. They will also give us the GPS coordinates so we can find it on Google Earth!
Date | Donor | Amount | Message |
---|---|---|---|
10/20/11 | Glen Nielsen | $4543.50 | When we spoke in the summer I was told the most likely place this would go is Rwanda ... still true? We want it to go to the next project you are implementing. Let us know! Thanks! |
08/05/11 | Joni and Grant Davids | $200.00 |
Did you know nearly 1 billion people don't have safe water to drink?
Together, we can change that. Let's fund a new source of drinking water for those who suffer needlessly without it!
Our gifts will be used to construct or rehabilitate a water project, like a well or sand dam, in Africa. We'll see pictures, GPS coordinates, and updates as they come in from the actual water project we fund so we can celebrate the results along with the community we help.
The Water Project, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization unlocking human potential by providing clean, safe water to communities around the world who suffer needlessly without.
Working with local partners in countries like Kenya, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, and Uganda, we build long lasting water projects that are organized, owned and managed by the communities receiving them.
Together, with our partners we identify, implement, report on and follow up on every project. Then we share the whole story with you to inspire confidence in the work being done and the impact it has.
