Kathome Secondary and Primary Schools are located in Lower Yatta District, Kitui County in Kenya.
The area is semi arid with annual rainfall of between 250 - 750 mm. The schools support a population of around 400 pupils and a local community with a population of around 5,000 people. The area has little forest cover and initiatives by the schools to plant trees in their compounds are hampered by lack of water.
Over 99% of the local population have no access to clean drinking water. The nearest water source is the seasonal Tiva River which is dry for at least 340 days each year. The communities around the river rely on shallow water pans sunk into the river for their drinking water.
The objective of the fund raising is to sink and equip a borehole and 4 water tanks of 10,000 litres each which would serve the local communities. Part of the money raised will also be used in constructing a water kiosk to enable the 2 schools sell water to the local communities at subsidised rates. The monies raised from the sale of water will be used to maintain the borehole and attached infrastructure.

Kathome Secondary & Primary School Water Project Fundraising Page!
Did you know nearly 1 billion people don't have safe water to drink?
Together, we can change that. Let's fund a new source of drinking water for those who suffer needlessly without it!
Our gifts will be used to construct or rehabilitate a water project, like a well or sand dam, in Africa. We'll see pictures, GPS coordinates, and updates as they come in from the actual water project we fund so we can celebrate the results along with the community we help.
The Water Project, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization unlocking human potential by providing clean, safe water to communities around the world who suffer needlessly without.
Working with local partners in countries like Kenya, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, and Uganda, we build long lasting water projects that are organized, owned and managed by the communities receiving them.
Together, with our partners we identify, implement, report on and follow up on every project. Then we share the whole story with you to inspire confidence in the work being done and the impact it has.
