I always knew that people in other countries did not live such a fortunate life that I did with having clean water; however, this year I am taking action to help improve the situation of people who are not able to get access to clean, safe water. For my IB Personal Project my goal is to raise $200 which will be going towards The Water Project. I will also be handing out water accessibility and sanitation info-graphics to my community to educate them about the water crisis in Sub-Saharan African countries and teaching them how they can help out. I will also be designing and then selling water bottles with the proceeds being donated to The Water Project as well, and this fundraiser will help with all these things.
Poor water sanitation and water scarcity is a very severe problem. Around 700 million people in 43 different countries suffer from water scarcity, and in developing countries 80% of illnesses are caused by poor water sanitation. Not only does unclean water negatively affect the health of millions of people and cause them to be ill, but it also hinders the education of girls and young women. They have to walk at least 4 or more miles to retrieve the water and then carry back the 40 pounds of water. Usually, the water they carry back is not even safe to drink causing illnesses.
Your participation in this fundraiser would make the world be one step closer to giving clean and accessible water to the millions of people in the countries of Sub-Saharan Africa who currently do not have access to these essentials and help them live a better life.
