Rebecca's Campaign for Water

To all my dear friends…..

For my birthday this year, I don’t need more things. I have a good life, people I love, and so much for which I am grateful.

So I’m asking for something different.

We all know that USAID has been sorely affected by our own country’s administration. Around the world, our neighbors still become sick and die because they lack access to safe, reliable water.

While our own dollars may feel stretched these days, I’ve learned that there is a wonderful opportunity right now to make whatever we can give go much further.

I contacted The Water Project directly to make certain I understood how their current matching campaign works. They have agreed to designate the donations made through my birthday fundraising page specifically for the Kitui Sand Dam project in Kenya, where they will qualify for The Water Project’s fall campaign triple match.

That means our gifts through this particular fundraiser can have three times the impact.

I’d love for my Facebook friends to join me in helping provide something most of us rarely have to think about: clean, reliable water.

I chose The Water Project only after doing quite a bit of homework. I wanted to know where the money goes, whether their water projects are still working years later, what happens when a well or water system breaks, and who pays to repair it.

I was also pleased to find strong independent accountability. Charity Navigator gives The Water Project a Four-Star rating.

So this year, instead of buying me a birthday lunch, a bottle of wine, flowers, or another little something, would you consider putting that money toward water instead?

No amount is too small. Put a few of us together—and then triple what we give—and we can do something meaningful for people we will probably never meet.

That would be a pretty wonderful birthday present.
