One of the very fundamental necessities in life is clean water. We use water to drink, bathe, clean our food, wash our clothes and sanitize our homes on a daily basis. Luckily for us, obtaining our water isn't a daily struggle; most of us are able to use the water that is supplied to us in the convenience of our own homes. Still, many countries in the world are severely impacted by their limited access to clean water.
Currently, about 884 million people have inadequate access to safe drinking water, thus increasing the risk of easily preventable disease, as well as food shortages caused by failure to maintain livestock and agriculture. A leading cause in water-related disease is diarrhea; roughly, 90% of diarrhea-related deaths occur in children under the age of 5 and is due to unsafe drinking water. Other preventable illness, such as infection, dehydration and parasites, rapidly become serious health problems by the inability to do something as simple as wash your hands and food. Furthermore, only 62% of the world has access to improved sanitation where water containing human excrement is separated from drinking water. Finally, simply the task of collecting the household water can be dangerous and incredibly burdensome on the family, both physically and financially.
This is why I've started a fundraising page with The Water Project. The Water Project is a great organization that builds wells for a communities that would otherwise
have inadequate access to sanitary water for their families, provides personal hygience and sanitation education, and long-term monitoring and evaluation.
My goal is to raise $6,500, the cost of one well project. Even if we don't reach this goal, any amount helps...

Did you know nearly 1 billion people don't have safe water to drink?
Together, we can change that. Let's fund a new source of drinking water for those who suffer needlessly without it!
Our gifts will be used to construct or rehabilitate a water project, like a well or sand dam, in Africa. We'll see pictures, GPS coordinates, and updates as they come in from the actual water project we fund so we can celebrate the results along with the community we help.
The Water Project, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization unlocking human potential by providing clean, safe water to communities around the world who suffer needlessly without.
Working with local partners in countries like Kenya, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, and Uganda, we build long lasting water projects that are organized, owned and managed by the communities receiving them.
Together, with our partners we identify, implement, report on and follow up on every project. Then we share the whole story with you to inspire confidence in the work being done and the impact it has.
