Hello!
I've been doing lots of research on different charities that help bring safe drinking water to different areas of the world who are in need, and this organization seems to be doing great work. (It's called The Water Project, if you wanted to check it out for yourself).
They are planning on building a borehole well in the Port Loko District of Sierra Leone, at Makempitha Primary School. Currently the primary school has an old decommisioned well, which has not be working for many years. So students are having to travel great distances during school time to collect water from a swamp, which has many contaminates, leading to illness and therefore more missed class time.
I thought it'd be good to try and fundraise for this project, and hopefully we can together make the 200 kids at the primary schools lives a bit easier so they can better focus on their education.
The project:
They begin by doing community engagement and talking with local consultants to decide together what is the best solution to permanent, sustainable and reliable safe water access, which is different for each area.
They hire local professionals to provide education on hygiene, sanitation and water management.
Then they begin construction on the chosen solution to a water source (in this case a borehole well).
Afterwards, they train people local to the area on the well maintenance, including purchasing them the tools to take care of the well properly and independently. Though there is follow up, and an open line of communication to ensure the well stays in good working order permanently.
(Just note, that the website is based in the US, so your donation will still be processed in CAD but will show up as the USD amount here. Just wanted to mention in case there was any confusion!)
