This project is in the early stages of site selection and initial construction preparation.
During this phase, teams are working to ensure that the community is mobilized and ready for the work to commence. They may be working with them to gather supplies, prepare the site or organize a local water committee to oversee the project in the long term.
We will post specific details about the project, including locations, as they are made available by our partners.
Estimated Project Completion Date:
12/31/2014 (Explain This?)
Check back for updates.
Project Type: Hand Dug Wells
Project type subject to change prior to completion based on community needs and geographical and hydro-geological limitations.
In some areas, hand dug wells are still the most efficient way to gain access to clean water.
Workers are lowered, bit by bit, into the wells removing dirt and rock as the go. Then, once adequate water is reached, the team caps and protects the well and attaches the hand pump.
A clean, safe water source is ready for the community.
12/08/2014: Rain Delay
Have you ever been to a baseball game and had to wait while the rain fell on the field? We face the same frustration in the work of bringing clean water. We know you have been waiting to hear about a new shallow well project in Uganda. The most recent rainy season in Uganda has been unexpectedly wet, causing our partner to delay construction. Shallow wells are very dependent on stable soil formations, and lots of rain diminishes that stability.
But clean water is needed, and our partner is determined. The work will commence as soon as possible. We'll keep you posted as the project moves forward.

Did you know nearly 1 billion people don't have safe water to drink?
Together, we can change that. Let's fund a new source of drinking water for those who suffer needlessly without it!
Our gifts will be used to construct or rehabilitate a water project, like a well or sand dam, in Africa. We'll see pictures, GPS coordinates, and updates as they come in from the actual water project we fund so we can celebrate the results along with the community we help.
The Water Project, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization unlocking human potential by providing clean, safe water to communities around the world who suffer needlessly without.
Working with local partners in countries like Kenya, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, and Uganda, we build long lasting water projects that are organized, owned and managed by the communities receiving them.
Together, with our partners we identify, implement, report on and follow up on every project. Then we share the whole story with you to inspire confidence in the work being done and the impact it has.
