A Year Later: "I will be able to go to school on time."

Mariatu C., 16, recalled what life was like in the Maffereh Community before her community's well was rehabilitated last year.

"Fetching water in this community was a difficult challenge before the project was completed. As a community, we used to walk long distances to fetch water. The water at the stream was not safe and pure to drink and could lead to bad health conditions," said Mariatu.

Collecting water is much simpler for Mariatu and the other community members in Maffereh now.

"I am no longer wasting time fetching water for the preparation of food because there is enough water in the community, and the water point is close to my house. I used to launder once a week due to the insufficient water in the community. From the time this water [point] was completed, I [have] almost laundered every day. We have safe and pure drinking water in our community to do domestic activities on time," said Mariatu.

Having ready access to water from the well has made a difference for Mariatu, allowing her to quickly collect water, take care of her responsibilities, and still have time for learning.

"There is safe and pure drinking water in the community for me and my fellow pupils. As a student, I will be able to go to school on time. This is an important goal because, before this time, I used to go late to school due to the insufficient water in the community. I'm able to achieve this goal due to the sufficient water in the community, and my academic performance will be upgraded. Today, we want to say thanks to you for providing us with this water point," concluded Mariatu.
