A Year Later: "I am no longer suffering to fetch water."

April, 2024

A year ago, your generous donation helped the Santiguiya Neneh Community in Sierra Leone access clean water – creating a life-changing moment for Ibrahim. Thank you!

A Year Later:

Seventeen-year-old Ibrahim recalled what life was like in the Santiguiya Neneh Community before his community’s well was rehabilitated last year.

“It was hard for me to fetch water because of the water situation in the community. I walked to the swamp to fetch water in the morning hours and evening hours after coming from school. I had no time to rest. Most of my time was spent on fetching water for my parents. This was really affecting me,” shared Ibrahim.

Collecting water is now much simpler and faster for Ibrahim.

“Today, I am no longer suffering to fetch water. All the constraints I used to face are now over. My parents no longer scold me to fetch water because the well is next to our house. I am now able to fetch enough water to serve us at home,” continued Ibrahim.

Having ready access to clean water from the well has made a difference for Ibrahim, allowing him time to do other important things like studying hard so he can have a bright future.

"The water well has helped me to wash the dirty plates and spoons before going to school. Also, I can go for extra classes after school since the water I had fetched in the morning hours would be used for the rest of the day. This gives me more time to concentrate on my studies," said Ibrahim.

Ibrahim happily pumps clean water from the well.
