Rahab Aspires to Become a Doctor!

Last year, your gift unlocked the potential for a brighter future for Rahab. Since then, she and the Shirere Community of 196 residents have had clean, reliable water. Your contribution has made a significant impact. Thank you for making a difference!

"Reliable, clean, and safe water has impacted our lives positively," shared Rahab.

Before the Spring Protection

Like many in Kenya, 11-year-old Rahab is responsible for collecting water to meet her daily needs. Before last year's water intervention, this task stole her time and negatively affected her.

Community members collect water from the spring before its protection.

Drinking the water had severe consequences. Many in her community suffered from waterborne diseases that created health problems and affected their daily lives. For Rahab, in particular, water-related illnesses lessened her opportunity to gain an education.

"Drinking water from this source, which was contaminated, really affected my health negatively. It led to water-related illnesses, which almost cost my life. I missed school all term, which forced me to repeat the same grade," bravely shared Rahab.

Since the Spring Protection

Your generous gift last year was much more than a simple donation; it was a powerful statement about your commitment to this community and Rahab's future. By supporting the water solution, you made clean water an everyday reality, fostering hope for a brighter future.

Rahab.

Reliable and clean water lays the groundwork for improved health, education, and economic possibilities, allowing people to thrive. We frequently hear from those we interview that "water is life!"

"My health has really improved since the water point was implemented. I have never had illnesses because the water source is safe. More so, [the] installation of [a] chlorine dispenser for water treatment has also helped us in water safety," shared Rahab.

The Future is Looking Bright!

A year ago, you made a difference for Rahab and the rest of her community. This is just the first chapter of their story as access to clean water continues to improve their lives!

At The Water Project, we value sustainability and want to ensure that people continue to thrive. We commit to monitoring this project to ensure the water is always flowing and safe to consume. We inspect the system hardware, track water availability, conduct sanitary inspections, and collect water quality samples to identify risks. We work with our team on the ground to resolve them.

You gave Rahab a crucial tool for achieving her dreams: access to clean water. Together, we can excitedly expect that with this precious resource, her enthusiasm and courage will help her fulfill her dreams.

"Nowadays, I no longer miss school because of illnesses caused by contaminated water. My academic performance has really improved because I no longer waste a lot of time at the water point. I spent my time concentrating on my studies, especially during holidays," said Rahab.

"In addition, I have never been hospitalised since this water point was installed, which has really unlocked my potential in achieving more in my performance."

"The future is bright because access to safe, clean water has improved life, which has improved [my] education and health. Improvement in my academic performance has now given me hope in life. My ambition is to be a doctor to save other people's lives, and access to safe and clean water has unlocked my potential."
