Isatu Conteh, 18, recalled what life was like in Petifu Junction Community before her community's well was rehabilitated last year.
"Before, we were having break down[s] with [the] pump, causing [a] few days that we are without safe water. This caused us to fetch water from the stream, which is about 200 meters away from my house. I wasted a lot of time to fetch a bucket of water, and it required more energy. This caused me not to go to school on time, and I hardly [could] complete domestic activities in the morning because [of] going to school," Isatu said.
But life is much less burdensome for Isatu and the other community members in Petifu Junction Community now.
"Thank you for this water point. This water point is a blessing in disguise for us. Since this water point was handed over to us, it has never been dry, or the pump faulty. Now, I have enough water to launder and bathe on time. This water point has helped impact my life because I can go to school on time and have enough time to rest," she continued.
Having ready access to water from the well has made a difference for Isatu, allowing her to continue school and improve her personal hygiene.
"This water point has helped me to do domestic activities on time. It has reduced the [risk of] contracting waterborne diseases. I have enough time to read my school notes," Isatu concluded.
Thank you for helping Isatu access clean water and returning her time that was once wasted on fetching water that can now be used to enhance her future.
Right now, there are others just like her in neighboring communities that desperately need safe water access. Your support will immediately go to work to provide a clean water project - and we can't wait to introduce you to the next person you'll help.
