A Year Later: No More Water-Related Illness!

Farmer Violet Nasimuyu, 32, recalled what life was like in the Mungakha Community before her well was installed last year.

"Before [the] protection of this water point, it was challenging to fetch water because we used a lot of time drawing water using a jug. More so, water was not safe for drinking because the water point was open to contamination. During rainy seasons, most members were being affected by water-related ailments, which had led to health effects for both children and adults," said Violet.

But collecting water is much safer for Violet and the other community members in Mungakha now.

"Nowadays, the water fetched in this spring is safe for human consumption. Personally, since this spring was protected, I have never been affected by water-related ailments because [I] know [the] water is safe," said Violet.

Having ready access to water from the well has made a difference for Violet, allowing her to collect and drink safe water so she doesn't have to battle waterborne disease.

'My plans or goal was to ensure that my family is drinking safe and clean water. [I will do] this by ensuring that I transport water in a good way and clean my jerrican. Secondly, now there is no more waste of time at the water point. I will spend more time doing my business, which will really improve the standard of living for my family members," concluded Violet.
