Hawanatu Kamara, 21, recalled what life was like in Kriema Kiamp before her community's well was rehabilitated last year.
"Thank you for providing us [with] clean and safe drinking water. Before, we, the entire community, were in constraints for clean and safe water. Especially the women were struggling to do domestic activities, such as cooking, washing cooking utensils, and launder[ing] of clothes. We were fetching water from a swamp that was not clean to drink or cook [with], but we [had] no option. Also, the swamp water we were drinking before caused [a] lot of health implications, such as stomach pain, skin rash, typhoid, and diarrhea," she shared.
But life is much easier for Hawanatu and the other community members in Kriema Kiamp now.
"[We are] no [longer] worried about fetching water because we have clean and safe drinking water, and it is available throughout the year. We have clean and safe water to cook, drink, launder, and bathe. This water point has helped to minimize waterborne diseases," Hawanatu continued.
Having ready access to water from the rehabilitated well has made a difference for Hawanatu, allowing her daily water.
"This water point has helped us to achieve some of [the] things that water fetching was affecting, such as cooking on time and clean[ing] of sanitation facilities on [a] regular basis. Also, we can now practice better hygiene ways."
Thank you for helping Hawanatu access clean water and having what she needs to do her everyday tasks without worrying about becoming ill.
Right now, there are others just like her in neighboring communities that desperately need safe water access. Your support will immediately go to work to provide a clean water project - and we can't wait to introduce you to the next person you'll help.
