Last year, your gift unlocked the potential for a brighter future for Rose. Since then, she and the Byebega Community of 350 residents have had clean, reliable water. Your contribution has made a significant impact. Thank you for making a difference!
"I like the water point because it is conveniently located close to my home. This makes it easier for me to collect water without spending much time," said Rose.
Like many women in Uganda, 40-year-old Rose Akugizibwe is responsible for collecting water to meet her daily water needs. Before last year’s water intervention, this task stole her time and negatively affected her.

Before the well was installed, people had to walk long distances to collect clean water.
Drinking the water caused severe consequences. Many in the community suffered from waterborne diseases that created health problems, affecting their daily lives. Limited accessibility also meant people wasted time collecting sufficient water to meet their needs. The difficult journey to collect water sapped their physical and emotional energy, creating roadblocks. For Rose, it lessened her opportunity to complete her daily tasks.
"The distance to the water point was long, which made the journey tiring. The road leading there was also hilly, adding to the difficulty of accessing water. When we finally arrived, the congestion at the water point made it hard to collect water quickly. Many people were waiting, each struggling to get their turn. Because of this, we often returned home late and exhausted. At times, we even lacked enough water for domestic use, which greatly affected our daily activities," shared Rose.
Your generous gift last year was much more than a simple donation; it was a powerful statement about your commitment to this community and Rose’s future. By supporting the water solution, you made clean water an everyday reality, fostering hope for a brighter future.
Reliable and clean water lays the groundwork for improved health, education, and economic possibilities, allowing people to thrive. We frequently hear from those we interview that "water is life!"
"I no longer have to walk long distances, which reduces the burden of fetching water. The time I save is now used to focus on domestic work and other important activities," Rose noted. "It now takes me only fifteen minutes to fetch water, unlike in the past when I used to spend an entire hour."
A year ago, you made a difference for Rose and the rest of her community. This is just the first chapter of their story as access to clean water continues to improve their lives!
At The Water Project, we value sustainability and want to ensure that people continue to thrive. We commit to monitoring this project to ensure the water is always flowing and safe to consume. We inspect system hardware, monitor water availability, conduct sanitary inspections, and collect water-quality samples to identify risks. We work with our on-the-ground team to resolve them.
"Having clean water promotes healthy living and good hygiene because I can cook food with safe water and worry less about sickness," Rose said. "I am proud that I am no longer at risk of waterborne diseases. My children are now healthy and strong. We no longer make constant trips to the clinic for treatment."
You gave Rose a crucial tool for achieving her dreams: access to clean water. Together, we can excitedly expect that with this precious resource, her enthusiasm and courage will help her fulfill her dreams.

"I started a kitchen garden where I grow fresh vegetables. These vegetables have greatly improved my health. Having water nearby makes it easy to irrigate and maintain the garden," said Rose.
Now that Rose is having success growing vegetables, she has big plans for the future.
Rose shared what she envisions: "I want to expand and grow vegetables on a larger piece of land. This will allow me to increase production and sales. My goal is to generate more income to support my family."
