Geoffrey Can Help His Students Achieve Dreams!

Last year, your gift unlocked the potential for a brighter future for Geoffrey and his students. Since then, he and the 768 students and staff of Hamutua Primary School have had clean, reliable water. Your contribution has made a significant impact. Thank you for making a difference!

Before the Rain Tank's Implementation

Teacher Geoffrey Besela, 41, acutely felt the hardship of his school's water crisis. His students were tasked with the strenuous task of bringing water to school. It's a large school, so the requirement was literally, very heavy. This was the only solution until their raintank was implemented last year.

Drinking the water caused severe consequences. Many in his school suffered from waterborne diseases that created health problems, affecting their daily lives. The distant spring had limited water which also meant people wasted time trying to collect sufficient water to meet their needs. The difficult journey to collect water sapped their physical and emotional energy, creating roadblocks and sometimes preventing them from being in class. This negatively impacted their ability to get a good education. For Geoffrey, in particular, it made it nearly impossible to give his students the education they deserved.

"It was so challenging to this institution because learners used to walk long distances looking for water. However, as an institution, we had been having chaos with the community members because students used to step on their crops which [led] to conflict between the school and the community," shared Geoffrey.

Since the Rain Tank's Implementation

Your generous gift last year was much more than a simple donation; it was a powerful statement about your commitment to this school, and Geoffrey and his student's future. By supporting the rain tank, you made clean water an everyday reality for them, fostering hope for a brighter future.

Reliable and clean water lays the groundwork for improved health, education, and economic possibilities, allowing people like Geoffrey and his students to thrive. We frequently hear from those we interview that "water is life!"

"[A] reliable water source in the school impacted [our] lives positively. Since the waterpoint was installed we have seen so many changes in terms of academic performance and hygiene and sanitation standards," he continued.

The Future is Looking Bright!

A year ago, you made a difference for Geoffrey and the Hamutua Primary School. This is just the first chapter of their story as access to clean water continues to improve their lives!

At The Water Project, we value sustainability and want to ensure that people continue to thrive. We commit to monitoring this project to ensure the water is always flowing and safe to consume. We inspect the system hardware, track water availability, conduct sanitary inspections, and collect water quality samples to identify risks. We work with our team on the ground to resolve them.

You gave Geoffrey a crucial tool for achieving greatness as a teacher: access to clean water. Together, we can excitedly expect that with this precious resource, his enthusiasm and courage will help him support and inspire his students!

"My plan [is] to ensure that the learners have achieved their dreams. As a teacher in this institution, my great achievement is to ensure that the learners achieve in their academic performance. More so, to ensure hygiene and sanitation standards are improved; to make the school more conducive for learning," concluded Geoffrey.
