Marvin, 12, recalled what life was like in the Rwebigwara Community before his community's well was implemented last year.
"I used to fetch water from the dam, but the water was not clean. I used to fear going to the dam because there was a man who fell in and died, and even after that, I had to continue using that same water because I had no choice. I would use the same water for drinking because I couldn't move long distances to the borehole. [This] dam water would sometimes make me sick, hence making my parents spend lots of money," shared Marvin.
Collecting water is now much less scary for Marvin and the other community members in the Rwebigwara Community.
"I am assured of safe drinking water all the time because this water is very clean. I even drink it without boiling [it]. I no longer fall sick of waterborne diseases, hence reduced expenses [for] medication by my parents," he continued.
Having ready access to water from the well has made a difference for Marvin, allowing him to collect all of the water he needs to fulfill his and his family's needs.
When asked what he has accomplished with access to clean water, he said, "[I am able] to help my parents collect water for feeding animals."
