Plenty of Water to Accomplish Daily Tasks!

Last year, your gift unlocked the potential for a brighter future for the students and staff of Shitoto Girls Secondary School. Since then, they have had clean, reliable water. Your contribution has made a significant impact. Thank you for making a difference!

Before the Well's Installation

Last year, the students collected water to meet their and the school's water needs. Before the installation of the well, that task stole their time and energy and the staff had to make do without sufficient water.

"Lack of enough reliable water in the school gave us [a] really hard time whereby the school needed water for food to be prepared and cleaning to be done daily. The school really struggled to get enough water to sustain the school's daily use," 32-year-old cook Maximillah Atsulu Were.

"It was quite time-consuming and difficult [to] access water from a spring nearby when the school hand-dug well could not provide water for the school because we had to go for water first before preparing food for the whole school," continued Maximillah.

Students waiting to access water from the school's hand-dug well that often would run dry.

Since the Well's Installation

Your generous gift last year was much more than a simple donation; it was a powerful statement about your commitment to this school's future. By supporting the water solution, you made clean water an everyday reality for them, fostering hope for a brighter future.

Reliable and clean water lays the groundwork for improved health, education, and economic possibilities, allowing people to thrive. We frequently hear from those we interview that "water is life!"

"The waterpoint is in the school premises making it easier to access clean and safe water in plenty. This clean water helps to keep us healthy and it helps us to maintain our cleanliness," said Maximillah.

"There has really been a big improvement whereby the students use this water for cleaning their classes and doing laundry, especially during weekends where they do [a] thorough cleaning of the whole school and their clothes. The teachers have [an] easier time to teach and the school schedule runs smoothly due to [the] water access and reliability in the school premises. There have been sports days, academic exchange days where other schools come for competitions, and school agricultural projects for agriculture students where this water has served in these events," concluded Maximillah.

The completed well.

At The Water Project, we value sustainability and want to ensure that people continue to thrive. We commit to monitoring this well to ensure the water is always flowing and safe to consume. We inspect the system hardware, track water availability, conduct sanitary inspections, and collect water quality samples to identify risks. We work with our team on the ground to resolve them.
