Saffiayatu, 16, recalled what life was like in the Tintafor Community before her community's well was rehabilitated last year.
"Initially, this water well was not functioning. That is why we used to fetch water from the swamp. It was difficult to fetch water from that source; the distance was far, and the road was slippery. Even to fetch one bucket of water was not easy," said Saffiayatu.
"The water we fetched from this source was used to drink, launder clothes, cook, wash cooking utensils, like plates and pots, and clean the sanitation facility. Before, the water constraints affected my timeliness at school, and even to launder my uniforms and clothes was difficult. Also, sometimes I get sick twice a month because of the long walking distance to fetch water, and drinking the swamp water was a contributing factor to my illness," she continued.
Collecting water is now simpler and faster for Saffiayatu and the other community members in Tintafor.
"Today, with the help of you, we can now fetch safe, pure water. All the constraints we used to face in terms of pure water are now over. I can easily fetch water to do all my domestic work on time and launder my school uniforms and clothes. Also, the water point will help me to be punctual in school. I will no longer walk far distances to fetch water," continued Saffiayatu.
Having ready access to water from the well has made a difference for Saffiayatu. It allows her to maintain her health and energy so she can focus on learning.
"This water point has helped me to have plenty of time to read my school notes. Also, even the water illnesses I was contracting from drinking dirty water are now over. My health has improved [to be] much better than before. Thank you for providing us with clean and safe water to drink," concluded Saffiayatu.
