Sammy dreams of becoming a surgeon!

Ten-year-old Sammy recalled what life was like in the Kilia Community before his community's dug well was implemented last year.

"I used to wait for so long at the river to get my turn so that I could fetch water. The river used to get very dry, making us suffer even more whenever we were sent to get water. It was extremely harsh and hard. I could be sent to fetch water immediately after I came back from school. [I was] very tired and worn out and still needed to deliver," shared Sammy.

Thanks to clean water access from their dug well, life is less tiresome for Sammy and the other community members in Kilia!

"I am now able to fetch water quickly with fewer worries of queues. I can fetch water very comfortably after school and over the weekends," continued Sammy.

When we asked if Sammy had seen a difference in his health since the well was installed, he said, "Yes, we no longer fall sick as we are getting clean and safe water from the shallow well. The best thing for me is that you live in peace knowing your health is well taken care of."

Having ready access to water from the well has made a difference for Sammy, allowing him to reserve his energy for other things like helping out around the house and dreaming of a brighter future.

"I use the time to help my parents with other household chores such as collecting firewood and looking after cattle," said Sammy.

"After school I can fetch water quickly and do revision and my homework. I hope to become a surgeon," Sammy declared.
