Your gift unlocked Annastacia's potential for a brighter future last year. Since then, she and the Musuani Primary School's 437 students and staff have had clean, reliable water. Your contribution has made a significant impact. Thank you for making a difference!
"This waterpoint is easily accessible, and I can easily fetch water to drink whenever I feel thirsty," said Annastacia.
Like many in Kenya, 14-year-old Anastasia is responsible for collecting water to meet daily water needs. Before last year’s water intervention, this task stole her time and negatively affected her.
Drinking the water caused severe consequences. Many in the community suffered from waterborne diseases that created health problems, affecting their daily lives. Limited accessibility also meant people wasted time collecting sufficient water to meet their needs. The difficult journey to collect water sapped their physical and emotional energy, creating roadblocks. For Annastacia, in particular, it lessened her opportunity to stay healthy.
"Bringing water to school was physically draining, and we found it hard to focus in class. Fetching water during break time was also a struggle because every pupil wanted to get water to drink before going back to class.," shared Annastacia.
"The need to fetch water often interfered with our studies and free time because we would arrive [at] school late, and the boarders would queue for water for hours. Our school would ration the water to prevent water misuse. Thus, one could not get drinking water whenever they felt thirsty," she continued.
Your generous gift last year was much more than a simple donation; it was a powerful statement about your commitment to this community and Annastacia’s future. By supporting the water solution, you made clean water an everyday reality, fostering hope for a brighter future.
Reliable and clean water lays the groundwork for improved health, education, and economic possibilities, allowing people to thrive. We frequently hear from those we interview that "water is life!"
"I am now drinking clean water every day, which ensures water-related infections are kept at bay. I am also no longer using most of my energy bringing water to school," said Annastacia.
A year ago, you made a difference for Annastacia and the rest of her community. This is just the first chapter of their story as access to clean water continues to improve their lives!
At The Water Project, we value sustainability and want to ensure that people continue to thrive. We commit to monitoring this project to ensure the water is always flowing and safe to consume. We inspect the system hardware, track water availability, conduct sanitary inspections, and collect water quality samples to identify risks. We work with our team on the ground to resolve them.
You gave Annastacia a crucial tool for achieving her dreams: access to clean water. Together, we can excitedly expect that with this precious resource, her enthusiasm and courage will help fulfill her dreams.
"My studies have improved because I stopped carrying water from home and arrived at school early and ready for the day's lessons. I have also been concentrating in class because I [am] not stressing about where to get water. My meals are prepared on time, and I am no longer exposed to waterborne infections, which has enabled me to come to school every day," said Annastacia.
"I now spend most of [my] time either doing my assignments or playing with friends."
"I want to get good grades so that I can become a doctor in [the] future. I am also practicing good hygiene and observing cleanliness which are some of the aspects of being a doctor. When I achieve my dream, I will be in a better position to advocate for cleanliness in our community."
