Dear friends and family of Howard Hall residents,
It's time for Howard Hall's annual Totter for Water, an event to raise money for The Water Project Initiative. This initiative works toward providing clean water to communities in Africa and India. Limited or nonexistent clean water access is an underlying cause of disease, decreased educational opportunities, and poverty. Many of the world's greatest problems (poverty, disease, hunger, inequality) are linked to limited clean water access. Statistically, one in six persons worldwide do not have access to safe drinking water. Every 24 hours, 4,000 children will die preventable deaths due to diarrhea caused by unclean water and poor sanitation.
For a 24 hour period, from 5pm on Thursday, October 6th through 5pm on Friday, October 7th, Howard Hall women and campus-wide guests will see-saw continuously on South Quad. We commit to 24 hours of tottering for all individuals without access to clean drinking water, with hopes of reaching our monetary goal and helping fund a well in a community of need.
We hope you will lend your moral support as we embark on this task and make financial contributions as your own circumstances allow. We'll gladly accept donations of any amount, but here are some suggestions for your consideration:
$10 provides clean water to a man, woman, or child for 10 years
$24 represents $1 for each hour of Totter for Water (a 24-hour event)
$45 represents a 1 percent share in a community well
$50 provides clean water to a family of five for ten years
$250 supplies water to a classroom of students for ten years
We appreciate your support.
Thanks so much!
Quack,
Howard Hall 2011-2012 Residents

Did you know nearly 1 billion people don't have safe water to drink?
Together, we can change that. Let's fund a new source of drinking water for those who suffer needlessly without it!
Our gifts will be used to construct or rehabilitate a water project, like a well or sand dam, in Africa. We'll see pictures, GPS coordinates, and updates as they come in from the actual water project we fund so we can celebrate the results along with the community we help.
The Water Project, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization unlocking human potential by providing clean, safe water to communities around the world who suffer needlessly without.
Working with local partners in countries like Kenya, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, and Uganda, we build long lasting water projects that are organized, owned and managed by the communities receiving them.
Together, with our partners we identify, implement, report on and follow up on every project. Then we share the whole story with you to inspire confidence in the work being done and the impact it has.
