My name is Zoe, I am an eighth grader and I am passionate about helping others in different, less fortunate countries. I read the book A Long Walk to Water. This book inspires me to want to raise money to build wells in Africa and raise awareness about the importance of having clean water. Seven hundred eighty three million people do not have access to clean safe water, 30,000 deaths occur every week because of unsafe water. Often because of the lack of water women and girls have to travel up to six hours walking to fetch water for their families. This water has diseases and because there is no water for proper hygiene this causes the girls and boys to miss school, Education is the quickest way out of poverty and only 50 percent of girls are enrolled in school due to having to get water for their families. Access to water and the practice of good hygiene could save the lives of 1.5 million children a year. This makes me feel like I need to do my part to help make the world a better place. I will be holding a walk and other fundraisers to raise money for the construction of 1 well in Africa. Stay tuned for more details. Please Donate anytime as the walk is still being planned!
