Help Fund a Water Project

Together, we can unlock potential in a developing community by providing clean, safe water.

My name is Brittany Stevens, and I am a student at Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama. I would really appreciate you taking the time to read about how you can help relieve the clean water crisis around the world.

In 2009, one child died from a water related disease every fifteen seconds.

Every time I hear statistics like this one, my heart breaks for the children and people who have to live without clean water. Although I want to do something to help, two thoughts always prevent me from trying: 1) I will do something to help one day when I have time, but right now I have too much going on. or 2) Even if I did try to help, how much of a difference could I make anyways? Today, I have run out of excuses. In the essay Learning in War-Time, C.S. Lewis states that "If men had postponed the search for knowledge and beauty until they were secure, the search would never have begun." But there has never been a time when there were no crises, difficulties, or emergencies. According to Lewis, a suitable moment never comes. I can't wait around for a convenient time to try and help people living without clean water, because that time won't come. This fundraising page is my first step in trying to help. Before you question if you can actually make a difference, read these statistics. Above I mentioned that in 2009, one child died from a water related disease every fifteen seconds. Today, one child dies from a water related disease every twenty-one seconds. That may seem like a minor change, but that slight change saves 1,656 children every day. The slightest change can make a huge difference in people's lives. If you are like me, and come up with the same excuses I do, I would like to encourage you to do more research on the water crisis and what The Water Project is doing to help. My goal is to raise $500 supporting The Water Project and their efforts to bring relief to communities around the world who suffer from a lack of clean water. I want to ask if you would consider donating a gift of any amount to help make a difference in the lives of those living without clean water. Also, I ask that you pass this on to anyone you know who might be interested in helping! Thank you so much for your time! "For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.'  "Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go visit you?' "The King will reply, 'Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of the brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.' Matthew 25:35-40

Why It Matters

Access to clean, safe water unlocks potential

Did you know nearly 1 billion people don't have safe water to drink?

Together, we can change that. Let's fund a new source of drinking water for those who suffer needlessly without it!

Our gifts will be used to construct or rehabilitate a water project, like a well or sand dam, in Africa. We'll see pictures, GPS coordinates, and updates as they come in from the actual water project we fund so we can celebrate the results along with the community we help.

About The Water Project

The Water Project, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization unlocking human potential by providing clean, safe water to communities around the world who suffer needlessly without.

Working with local partners in countries like Kenya, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, and Uganda, we build long lasting water projects that are organized, owned and managed by the communities receiving them.

Together, with our partners we identify, implement, report on and follow up on every project. Then we share the whole story with you to inspire confidence in the work being done and the impact it has.
