Help Fund a Water Project
Two years ago a seed was planted in my heart by my son's high school teacher about water wells. I was working with a group of moms to plan their Prom. Prom alone was $10,000 not including the after prom event, dresses, tuxes or flowers. With a tearful heart, she commented..."How many water wells could we buy if we gave up Prom?" Yes, I realize Prom is a point of passage of an annual tradition that has been passed down to high school juniors and seniors. What if these 16 and 17 year olds gave up a few hours on a Saturday night in exchange to provide clean drinking water for a decade for a few thousand people? How many people would have a chance at life? Her comment has tugged at my heart ever since.
I am only one Mom but I believe we can make a difference. I live in the United States and have all of my basic needs taken care without thinking twice about it. Every one of us is living the American Dream! When is enough really enough? Are you Ok with a child dying every 15 seconds due to lack of clean drinking water? Are you OK that 1 in 5 children who die before the age of 5 worldwide, die of water related diseases? Are you OK that children often walk miles (hours) everyday to fetch dirty water to drink? Some often refer to this DAILY journey as the road of death. One person at a time can make a difference.
During the month of November 2011, Ralph and I have decided to donate 100% of our proceeds from our Monavie business to The Water Project. With your help, we want to sponsor a water well in Uganda to provide clean drinking water to at least 500 people for 10 years. Our gifts will be used to construct or rehabilitate a water project, like a well or sand dam, in Africa. We'll see pictures, GPS coordinates, and updates as they come in from the actual water project we fund so we can celebrate the results along with the community we help.
