Hello,
I am a 12 year old boy from the UK and I live in a quite wealthy county in England called Buckinghamshire.
I have always been someone who enjoys helping people and supporting charity but recently I have been inspired to help people in Africa because of the extreme difficulty they are suffering from.
If you are already bored I suggest you stop reading now, but if you want to help save lives- read on...
One day I was watching TV and an advertisement appeared between shows...
Firstly, most of us would agree that generally adverts on TV, excluding some, are quite dull and boring. Well this one was far from it!
It was an advert from a water charity that had my eyes locked into position- staring at the screen. Yes I know my eyes are usually glued to the TV!! But this was different- it was emotional and moving.
It was no longer than 30 seconds- the allocated time, but it was long enough to leave me with my jaw dropped and my eyes completely drained from fluid.
It told a story of a specific child in Africa who has to walk for miles to collect water for her family. This child should be at school but she has to collect water, otherwise her family wouldn't survive.
She has to walk many miles barefooted and carrying a heavy water container to the nearest water souce (a spring or dam).
She arrives only to find a stagnant, putrid, spring full of brown water, that is contaminated with many diseases like Cholera and Typhoid- but she must fill up her container because her family requires this, or they will die of thirst and dehydration.
I realized instantly that that something has to be done about this crisis and it is definitely possible but not easy.
I did some research and discovered a number of statistics. For Example:
* 1/5 deaths of children under five is due to a water-related disease
* 1 in 9 people world wide don't have access to safe and clean drinking water
* 783 million people do not have access to clean water. 37% of those people live in Sub-Saharan Africa
* Girls under 15 are twice as likely as boys to be the family member responsible for collecting the water.
* 1/2 of the world hospital beds are filled with people suffering from water-related disease
These stats are significantly and obviously shocking but it is again possible to solve this problem.
Hundreds of charities around the world are helping to conquer this chaotic crisis, by building water sanitation plants and clean water wells, but your support is very important and required.
To raise money to fund a water project I am participating in a local 5km run in my town and I am hoping to raise money with sponsors.
Today, too many children suffer needlessly - walking miles for dirty water that makes them sick. You and I can change that. Please make a donation and then help me spread the word!
Thanks!!
BTW: this charity only works with US Dollars so please remember to enter your donation in the US section...
Thank you very much!

Did you know nearly 1 billion people don't have safe water to drink?
Together, we can change that. Let's fund a new source of drinking water for those who suffer needlessly without it!
Our gifts will be used to construct or rehabilitate a water project, like a well or sand dam, in Africa. We'll see pictures, GPS coordinates, and updates as they come in from the actual water project we fund so we can celebrate the results along with the community we help.
The Water Project, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization unlocking human potential by providing clean, safe water to communities around the world who suffer needlessly without.
Working with local partners in countries like Kenya, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, and Uganda, we build long lasting water projects that are organized, owned and managed by the communities receiving them.
Together, with our partners we identify, implement, report on and follow up on every project. Then we share the whole story with you to inspire confidence in the work being done and the impact it has.
