Why Are We Fundraising?

Last month, we attended a retreat at Camp Warren W Willis in Leesburg, FL. The theme for this retreat was "Imprint". It was designed to educate youth from all over the state about the many issues of injustice that are confronting us globally and within our local communities. One such issue raised was the lack of clean drinking water that plagues many around the globe. We watched a video telling the story of a girl named Nicole Lalime.

She died tragically in a school bus accident after school one day. Before she passed, she began a commitment a few years prior to forego a Christmas gift so that the money for which could be used to help fund the construction of a well to ensure that folks could have clean water. The Christmas before she died, she gave up all of her gifts in order to donate to this worthy cause.

So many of our youth were touched by Nicole's story that they were moved to commit and respond to her incredible witness and selflessness. They, too, wanted to forego some of their gifts in order to raise awareness and construct a well for those in need. We want to participate in an Advent conspiracy this year. Rather than purchase a bunch of gifts for us to open, we'd love to give the type of gift that keeps giving: the gift of water and the gift of life. So, many of us have made a decision to forego Christmas present(s), sell items we no longer need, and/or fundraise and use those funds to support the construction of a well. We are joining efforts with The Water Project, a 501(c)3 organization, that will take the funds we raise and distribute 100% of them to the field. We will receive project updates and GPS coordinates so that we may see, first hand, the impact our decision to give will have made this holiday season. We hope you will join us in our efforts. Many small gifts can combine to make a world of difference. Please join us in giving life this Christmas.

Why It Matters

Access to clean, safe water unlocks potential

Did you know nearly 1 billion people don't have safe water to drink?

Together, we can change that. Let's fund a new source of drinking water for those who suffer needlessly without it!

Our gifts will be used to construct or rehabilitate a water project, like a well or sand dam, in Africa. We'll see pictures, GPS coordinates, and updates as they come in from the actual water project we fund so we can celebrate the results along with the community we help.

About The Water Project

The Water Project, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization unlocking human potential by providing clean, safe water to communities around the world who suffer needlessly without.

Working with local partners in countries like Kenya, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, and Uganda, we build long lasting water projects that are organized, owned and managed by the communities receiving them.

Together, with our partners we identify, implement, report on and follow up on every project. Then we share the whole story with you to inspire confidence in the work being done and the impact it has.
