1 in 9 people world wide do not have access to clean drinking water. May we stop for a moment and think of all the people we know. Imagine having that fraction of our loved ones fighting diseases, walking for miles each day for water, or children missing school out of sickness. In developing countries, 80% of illnesses are linked to poor water conditions. Water is something we may take for granted, as we don't see it or experience it like many people in the world must do each day.
I chose this organization particularly because they involve the local community in building the water project. The community will be heard in choosing the type of water project (well, sand dam, hygiene, rainwater catchment, spring protection) and are involved in creating and developing. They will then have ownership, rather than the donor choosing and not involving the community at all which can typically result in abandonment or create further problems. By "lending a hand" it helps the community find long-term use and ownership. The same concept of "teaching a man to fish," rather than just feeding him for a day.
A donation will help support a project toward providing a community gain access to clean water. Please help the cause!
Thank you so much,
Kelly

Did you know nearly 1 billion people don't have safe water to drink?
Together, we can change that. Let's fund a new source of drinking water for those who suffer needlessly without it!
Our gifts will be used to construct or rehabilitate a water project, like a well or sand dam, in Africa. We'll see pictures, GPS coordinates, and updates as they come in from the actual water project we fund so we can celebrate the results along with the community we help.
The Water Project, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization unlocking human potential by providing clean, safe water to communities around the world who suffer needlessly without.
Working with local partners in countries like Kenya, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, and Uganda, we build long lasting water projects that are organized, owned and managed by the communities receiving them.
Together, with our partners we identify, implement, report on and follow up on every project. Then we share the whole story with you to inspire confidence in the work being done and the impact it has.
