The World Language Society at Plymouth State University is fundraising this semester to build a water project in Africa! It is our club's goal to help a community, of a different culture, that is in need. It is easy in the U.S. to take what we have for granted. Water is such a necessity of life. It is sometimes hard to remember that people, outside of our own culture, are struggling for these same necessities that come so easily to us. A total of 783 million people in this world lack access to clean water.
The money we raise this semester will be used to support a water project in Africa to help improve the water situation of a select village in need. Such projects could include supporting the drilling of a well, the building of a sand dam, the construction of a rainwater catchment device, spring protection measures, or a project to improve the hygiene and sanitation of a village, such as with the construction of toilets.
Our club is very passionate about this cause and is determined to bring awareness to the lack of clean water, as well as awareness to the excessive amount of food waste in America. Throughout this project, our club will be bringing attention to food waste in the Plymouth State University dining hall. By being more conscious about how much food we take and by refraining from filling our plates with more than we will eat, we will not waste nearly so much! The less we waste, the more money will be donated to our cause!
If you are not a student at Plymouth State University or do not have a meal plan, you can still participate in this cause! Make a donation on our fundraising page! Even a dollar makes a difference!

Did you know nearly 1 billion people don't have safe water to drink?
Together, we can change that. Let's fund a new source of drinking water for those who suffer needlessly without it!
Our gifts will be used to construct or rehabilitate a water project, like a well or sand dam, in Africa. We'll see pictures, GPS coordinates, and updates as they come in from the actual water project we fund so we can celebrate the results along with the community we help.
The Water Project, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization unlocking human potential by providing clean, safe water to communities around the world who suffer needlessly without.
Working with local partners in countries like Kenya, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, and Uganda, we build long lasting water projects that are organized, owned and managed by the communities receiving them.
Together, with our partners we identify, implement, report on and follow up on every project. Then we share the whole story with you to inspire confidence in the work being done and the impact it has.
