My Project:

I am a senior at Willard High School this year; in order to graduate my school requires that each student organize and complete a senior
project. They encourage us to use this project to explore a career field, serve
the community or do something we have always been interested in. I decided to take
advantage of this opportunity and be a part of something larger than myself. I
plan to serve not my community, but one much more in need by raising the money to build a well in a village in Africa. With my
senior project I hope to raise awareness in my community and the communities
around mine of the conditions people in Africa try to survive everyday and how
we can help them overcome these conditions.

Why I Chose This Topic:

Many teenagers and adults in the United States can not imagine a day without luxuries such as thier cell phone, internet, air conditioning or television. Much less of people living in the United States can imagine a day without running water in their homes, clean water, access to a shower or a restroom. Most Americans could not endure a day without the luxries we take for granted everyday. There are almost a billion people who do not endure this for just a day, but for years and sometimes their entire lives. They become sick and die from water borne disease: 4,000 children age five and under die just from diarrhea each day that doesn't include the countless other water related diseases that claim lives. If each person in my community gave just a few dollars we would have enough money to build a well in a community in Africa and give them clean water. This will not only improve life for many, but will also save the lives of the elderly and of young children, many of who die of water borne illnesses.

Why It Matters

Access to clean, safe water unlocks potential

Did you know nearly 1 billion people don't have safe water to drink?

Together, we can change that. Let's fund a new source of drinking water for those who suffer needlessly without it!

Our gifts will be used to construct or rehabilitate a water project, like a well or sand dam, in Africa. We'll see pictures, GPS coordinates, and updates as they come in from the actual water project we fund so we can celebrate the results along with the community we help.

About The Water Project

The Water Project, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization unlocking human potential by providing clean, safe water to communities around the world who suffer needlessly without.

Working with local partners in countries like Kenya, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, and Uganda, we build long lasting water projects that are organized, owned and managed by the communities receiving them.

Together, with our partners we identify, implement, report on and follow up on every project. Then we share the whole story with you to inspire confidence in the work being done and the impact it has.
