Last fall, Teriyiah Smith, a 9 year old read a book with her reading teacher about the importance of wells in Africa and the limited access to water there that often causes disease and death. Reading that book prompted Teriyiah to research about digging wells and the devastation that the lack of causes. This touched her heart in such a way that she felt that she had to do something. Teriyiah decided she would find out how much it cost to dig a well in Africa and raise money to do so. From research, she found that it would cost about $5,000 to dig a well. Though this is a large amount of money to raise, she decided it has been done before and she would do it also. She would do it because children and humans in general should not be getting sick and dying because of something that we often take for granted. She realized that we are blessed and sometimes unappreciative of something that is very limited in other countries, something as simple as clean water; she decided she needed to do something. Teriyiah decided to make pot holders and sell them for $1. She sold a pot holder to friends, family, teachers and anyone else that would support her efforts. Teriyiah also found a family member that pledged to match anything that she could raise. To date, Teriyiah has raised $23 and her sponsor has matched that so in total, she has $46 dollars to go towards digging a well in Africa. Teriyiah realizes that she has a long way to go but is determined to meet her goal of $5,000 dollars. Here's where you come in; please help Teriyiah in her efforts to dig a well in Africa. She knows that one well won't be enough but her motto is: If one well can change one life....we made a big difference. We ask you to partner with us to make this happen!

Did you know nearly 1 billion people don't have safe water to drink?
Together, we can change that. Let's fund a new source of drinking water for those who suffer needlessly without it!
Our gifts will be used to construct or rehabilitate a water project, like a well or sand dam, in Africa. We'll see pictures, GPS coordinates, and updates as they come in from the actual water project we fund so we can celebrate the results along with the community we help.
The Water Project, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization unlocking human potential by providing clean, safe water to communities around the world who suffer needlessly without.
Working with local partners in countries like Kenya, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, and Uganda, we build long lasting water projects that are organized, owned and managed by the communities receiving them.
Together, with our partners we identify, implement, report on and follow up on every project. Then we share the whole story with you to inspire confidence in the work being done and the impact it has.
