Flavin C., 14, recalled what life was like in the Shiana community before her community's spring was protected last year.
"This place had a lot of water and mud everywhere. Fetching water was very uncomfortable because access was poor. The place was also made dirty with sugarcane leftovers," Flavin shared.
But life is much cleaner for Flavin and the other community members in Shiana now.
"Getting water here is easy with [the] help of stairs. With [an] open hole like before, people could contaminate the water, leading to some disease[s]. Now, everything is good," she continued.
Having ready access to water from the protected spring has made a difference for Flavin, allowing her to safely collect water that won't make her sick.
"We collect clean water for use at home. We [can] do our cleaning regularly, especially as clothes and utensils [get dirty]. I have also saved on time because the container gets filled easily," Flavin concluded.
Thank you for helping Flavin access clean water and practice good hygiene. She no longer has to worry about having safe water for daily activities, such as washing her clothes. Prioritizing her time to focus on her future is possible with access to clean water.
Right now, there are others just like her in neighboring communities that desperately need safe water access. Your support will immediately go to work to provide a clean water project - and we can't wait to introduce you to the next person you'll help.
