A Year Later: Time to Build a Better Future!

Farmer Zam Nagudi, 34, recalled what life was like in Kyamarolere Community before her community's well was rehabilitated last year.

"Before this project was completed, life was very hard because we had to walk 2kms (1.2 miles) away to look for water. This was as a result of the frequent breakdowns encountered on this borehole [well]. [This] cost us a lot of money, making others give up contributing money for the repairs, hence making the borehole abandoned for longer periods of time," she said.

But life is much easier for Zam and the other community members in Kyamarolere Community.

"I am very grateful that the distance moved to collect water has reduced, and I have enough time to concentrate on my other domestic activities. Above all, there is peace in my family because I no longer have issues with my husband about delaying at the water points as compared to before," Zam continued.

Having ready access to water from the well has made a difference for Zam, allowing her to focus on caring for her family and keeping her relationships peaceful.

When Zam was asked what this borehole has helped her achieve, she responded, "I have achieved a lot from this borehole ever since it was fixed. Above all, I plan to start up a brick-making business to supplement my little income to enable me to take my children to better schools in town."
