Sheila K., 17, recalled what life was like in Shitungu before her community's spring was protected last year.
"Fetching water was not easy as many people came early to fetch water. It was even more difficult for us children as the elderly wouldn't let you fetch water before them," said Sheila.
But life is much more enjoyable for Sheila and the other community members in Shitungu now.
"Fetching water is quicker as water now flows from a water pipe. I have come to love fetching water from our spring. It has made me improve my relationship with my mum, which was strained as I didn't like fetching water before," Sheila said.
Having ready access to water from the spring has made a difference for Sheila, allowing her to plan and prepare for the future.
"I have put up (planted) a small arrowroot farm. I am hoping that upon harvest, I can use the proceeds to buy myself catering utensils as I am set to join college for a food and nutrition course," concluded Sheila.
Thank you for helping her access clean water and dream about the future.
Right now, there are others just like her in neighboring communities that desperately need safe water access. Your support will immediately go to work to provide a clean water project - and we can't wait to introduce you to the next person you'll help.
