A Year Later: A Clean House and Clean Hands!

A year ago, your generous donation helped Kaketi Community in Kenya access clean water – creating a life-changing moment for Everlyne. Thank you!

A Year Later: A Clean House and Clean Hands!

“Before the construction of this project, life was very hard," said 17-year-old Everlyne.

"We used to get water from very far [away] in a river that is about four kilometers from home, and the water was not very safe for drinking. We did not have enough water for maintaining our hygiene and sanitation as well as for watering our trees and other crops on the farm. The other source of our water is a nearby earth dam which is very open to contamination, hence the water source cannot be relied on by anyone.’’

But since rains have begun to mature the sand dam, there is always water nearby for Everlyne.

She said: "Now, I fetch water with a lot of ease, and I don’t waste much time as it’s a short walk [before] one is back home with water. I am very happy about this project, and the source has made me realize the goodness of having clean water near us.’’

Since the project was installed a year ago, easy accessibility to water has relieved more than just thirst.

“In the past year, I have been able to improve our sanitation levels at my home, as I am able to do all the cleaning of our houses, clothes, and utensils using this water point," Everlyne concluded. "Also, I have managed to install more handwashing points at home specifically to improve [our] sanitation that use [the] water supplied from this project.”
